Priorities

Housing

Housing is a human right and must be affordable for all New Yorkers. I will fight to ensure that everyone in New York has a stable, affordable, and secure home. This includes working to protect Mitchell-Lama housing, including the Big 6 Towers in District 30, making sure they have the funding available to stay affordable for residents. I will work to ensure Queens families are able to live in safe and secure housing, including basement units and deeply affordable housing to increase safety, and keep housing affordable. Creating the Social Housing Development Authority is another key priority to increase permanently affordable housing across New York. Additionally I will champion passing the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, which would give tenants a first opportunity to purchase their rental buildings when the owner decides to sell.

Flooding and Climate Change

Climate Change is the single biggest long-term threat to our society and economy. Environmental issues are not abstract; they are immediate, local, and deeply tied to the quality of life. I’ve seen this myself with Hurricane Ida flooding our basements and threatening lives and livelihoods. Queens residents have experienced flooding, damage, and loss of life, and mitigation efforts need to be put in place. Impactful legislation must be passed for us to feel fully safe in our homes. I support increasing funds for disasters and fully funding infrastructure upgrades to our sewer system, including lead pipe replacement, protection against contaminants, and increasing capacity of our sewers.

Immigrant and LGBTQIA+ Protections

Our neighborhoods were built, and are powered by, immigrants. Representing over 60% of our district, protecting immigrants’ rights means protecting our district’s ability to live in peace and thrive. In office, I will fight to pass New York For All to prevent local agencies from cooperating with ICE. I will seek to establish a right to counsel for individuals in immigration proceedings. Moreover, everyone should have access to healthcare regardless of documentation status, and passing the New York Health Act will ensure just that.

I am absolutely committed to being an accessible, transparent representative who works closely with LGBTQIA+ advocates and organizations to advance a bold, progressive agenda across our district and state. New York must remain a place where the LGBTQIA+ community, especially our trans youth, can live freely and safely with full legal and civil rights.

Education and Universal Childcare

Education is the essential foundation that puts New Yorkers on the path to success. I know this first-hand, having attended public schools in the district, and I know that our students need full funding and accessibility within our public school system. Funding is one of the most important factors in determining the quality of a student’s education, and I will prioritize increasing school aid, especially Foundation Aid, to ensure our schools' needs are adequately met. This, coupled with passing Universal Childcare and strengthening our 3K and Pre-K programs, will help not only our children, but our entire community to thrive.

Transportation and Street Safety:

Reliable and affordable transportation is essential to implementing my agenda for a safer, more accessible district. This is especially true when just over half of our residents rely primarily on public transit, higher than the citywide average. Yet for too long, residents have been forced to endure slow trains, long wait times, and a lack of easily accessible subway options. This is exacerbated by the unsafe corridors of Roosevelt Avenue and Broadway. This is unacceptable. I support safer street redesigns for all travelers, and believe it is vital to support long-overdue projects such as the Interborough Express (IBX) and the Queenslink. Improving and expanding public transportation will lead to better environmental quality, public safety, and affordability.
